On May 14th 2022, I graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Science with high distinction, cum laude, and high honors. My four years of college came to an end at this moment and it was surreal. For the first time in a while I was proud of all of my achievements and everything I have accomplished to get here.
Graduating has made me reflect back on what I enjoyed most during my undergraduate experience. Being fortunate enough to get accepted into a lab that allowed me to conduct my own research that eventually led to a senior thesis was the highlight of my college experience. I have found that I love the entire process of creating my own research experiment, conducting it, and writing scientific papers. I also love the supportive environment research creates. I have noticed that scientific research creates a community where everyone is bonded by a strong commitment to their research and a drive to discover more about our world. In every lab I have been a part of, it is clear that everyone is there to support each other and is more than willing to take time out of their busy days to teach you what they know. My research experience and wanting to be a part of this supportive community solidified my decision to go to graduate school one day.
Although I love the academic research environment, I want to take time outside of academics to discover other passions and experience what it’s like to work in the industry. As I begin to transition out of college into my new job as a lab technician in Brooklyn, New York, I will forever be grateful for my college experience and am excited to see where my career takes me.
